Yet another “blog about blogging”?
I have worked in the aid and nonprofit sector for over sixteen years. In the past three years, I witnessed the raise of social media as a powerful tool for the advocacy, fundraising, awareness, community building and knowledge sharing. During this time I experienced only a slow acceptance of these new tools within the nonprofit organisations.
While commercial companies have rapidly embraced social media as a way to communicate with their customers, many nonprofits engage half-heartedly, stumbling along. Is it the technical challenge that makes it difficult for them? Lack of staff? Ignorance of the social media scene? Fear of the unknown?
In BlogTips, I share mostly my own experiences, my own errors and victories in blogging as a hobby and in using social media in my nonprofit job. I write about questions asked by like-minded people I meet, and try to find solutions for challenges they face.
I hope to take away your stage fright and to eliminate the threshold of stepping into the exciting social media scene. I want to give you practical and down-to-earth tips to increase the visibility your organisation and your work deserves.
Peter.
